Dictée
Dictées are on Fridays. Dictée words are based on phonetic sounds and as much as possible are linked to other areas of the grade 3 curriculum. By practicing letter sounds, students can use this knowledge to help them sound out new words.
After 5 weeks, there will be a review week of dictée words, which will be a mix of already-tested words and new words containing the studied sounds.
Students are encouraged to use a variety of different methods to practice dictée words, rather than just memorizing, as this will help students translate this knowledge to authentic writing exercises.
